Wilson "Hoot" Bryan McMann Obituary

WILSON “HOOT” BRYAN MCMANN, 96, died on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster after a brief illness.

"Hoot" was born on May 10, 1924, at home in Stratford a son of David H. and Lucy (Hapgood) McMann, and has been a resident of Stratford his entire life. He was a graduate of Stratford High School, class of 1943.

Over the years, "Hoot" worked on several construction jobs, including the Radar Base in Vermont, where he worked seven days a week for two years; Moore Damn; James River; and at age of 72 he received his Septic Design License and designed and built many septic systems in "Stratford Hollow"; While working for James River, he and Frank McCullock received the Bronze Key from headquarters for their implementation of some unique approaches to closing the Emerson Road Landfill which saved $100,000 and improved the land quality.

"Hoot" was a Selectman for the Town of Stratford for 15 years; Planning Board for 40 years; and Town Tax Collector for several. He was very active with the Cohos Historical Society and the Stratford Old Home Days.

His hobbies included working on old one-lung engines and demonstrating them at Lancaster Fair and when he couldn't lift them anymore he started working on antique car engines. For 30 plus years he camped at Fryeburg Fair. His prized possessions were his two antique cars and his family.

“Hoot” is survived by his four children Linda (Stephen) Kelly of Gorham, ME; Janis (Fred) Astle of Cumberland, ME; Sharon (Phil) Fasulo of South Portland, ME and Bryan (Wendy) McMann of Stratford; nine grandchildren Dale; Jen; Geoff; Scott; Dwayne; Sheri; Mark; Jay; and Karyl, his sixteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years Louisa Anna (LeClaire) McMann on October 15, 2013; and his five siblings Albert; Della; Velma; Harold; and Madeline.
